In an era marked by conflict and division, the arts emerge as a powerful beacon of hope and humanity. This paper, which is currently in the process of being peer reviewed at Bradford University, explores how the arts can play a crucial role in educating society about the significance of disarmament, encouraging dialogue and dismantling fear.
It draws on a range of examples from literature, films and 80,000 Voices' recent project "Portraits of the Hibakusha - 80 Years Remembered" - 52 lenticular portraits of the survivors (known as hibakusha) of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which had their inaugural exhibition in Tokyo last year.
